چکیده

The aim of this course is to describe the mathematical model of competition in the chemostat and to study various mechanisms of coexistence of species. Basically, the chemostat consists of a nutrient input, pumped at a constant rate into a well-mixed culture vessel. The culture vessel contains the microorganisms that are growing and competing for the nutrient. Volume is kept constant by pumping the mixed contents out at the same rate. when only one species is present in the chemostat, the model is written  Ṡ = D(Sin − S)− q(S) Y x

Coexistence phenomena and global bifurcation structure in a chemostat-like model with species-dependent diffusion rates.

We study the competition of two species for a single resource in a chemostat. In the simplest space-homogeneous situation, it is known that only one species survives, namely the best competitor. In order to exhibit coexistence phenomena, where the two competitors are able to survive, we consider a space dependent situation: we assume that the two species and the resource follow a diffusion proc...

Competition in a Chemostat with Wall Attachment

A mathematical model of microbial competition for limiting nutrient and wallattachment sites in a chemostat, formulated by Freter et al. in their study of the colonization resistance phenomena associated with the gut microflora, is mathematically analyzed. The model assumes that resident and invader bacterial strains can colonize the fluid environment of the vessel as well as its bounding surfa...

Global Stability for a Model of Competition in the Chemostat with Microbial Inputs

We propose a model of competition of n species in a chemostat, with constant input of some species. We mainly emphasize the case that can lead to coexistence in the chemostat in a non-trivial way, i.e., where the n − 1 less competitive species are in the input. We prove that if the inputs satisfy a constraint, the coexistence between the species is obtained in the form of a globally asymptotica...

Feedback control for nonmonotone competition models in the chemostat

This paper deals with the problem of feedback control of competition between two species with one substrate in the chemostat with nonmonotone growth functions.Without control, the generic behavior is competitive exclusion. The aim of this paper is to find a feedback control of the dilution rate, depending only on the total biomass, such that coexistence holds. We obtain a sufficient condition f...

Bifurcation and Stability for the Unstirred Chemostat Model with Beddington-deangelis Functional

Abstract. In this paper, we consider a basic N-dimensional competition model in the unstirred chemostat with Beddington-DeAngelis functional response. The bifurcation solutions from a simple eigenvalue and a double eigenvalue are obtained respectively. In particular, for the double eigenvalue, we establish the existence and stability of coexistence solutions by the techniques of space decomposi...
